Louis Kapcsándy, Jr.

Louis was born in Marin County, CA and raised in Seattle, WA.  He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Economics (’94), and was a member of the Husky varsity football team for 3 years, culminating in back-to-back appearances at the Rose Bowl.  Upon graduation, he worked in sales in the grocery wholesale business. Thereafter, he moved to Los Angeles (’97-’99), to pursue a career in the film and music industries, and was employed as a sound engineer in Hollywood.

Louis began his wine career in 1999 when he co-founded Grand Cru Imports, a wine import company specializing in Bordeaux Cru Classe and Petits Chateaux. In March, 2000, Louis moved to Bordeaux to work with the highly respected Negociant firm, S.A. JOANNE to learn the intricacies of the Place de Bordeaux (network of Chateaux owners, agents and merchants).  During his tenure at JOANNE, he visited over 100 chateaux in the Medoc, Pomerol and St. Emilion to taste and discuss wine and winemaking. In July of that same year, he apprenticed for winemaker/consultants Jean Luc and Murielle Thunevin of Ch. Valandraud (St. Emilion), through harvest and vinification, and was able to spend many hours with the famed oenologist, Michel Rolland.

From 2001-2005, Louis managed national sales and acquistions for Grand Cru Imports.  In 2006, he began actively pursuing a career in viticulture and winemaking.  Today, he runs the day-to-day operations for both Kapcsandy Family Wines and Grand Cru Imports. Louis lives in Napa with his wife Wendy.
